Which filter technology suits your oil?
After the pressing process, cold-pressed oil contains fine cloudy substances, water and microparticles. The right filtration determines clarity, durability and salability. Depending on the throughput type of oil and the desired filter quality, different systems are recommended.
Plate filter
The classic for small and medium-sized oil mills. Filter plates made of cellulose or synthetic fiber work in printing operations and deliver brilliantly clear oils. Easy to use faster Plate change wide compatibility with all types of oil.

Chamber filter press
Proven technology for medium to large throughputs. Allow chambers with filter cloth higher operating pressure and longer run times between cleaning cycles. Particularly suitable for cloudy crude oils with a high solids content (linseed rapeseed).

Filtration Process
How filtration defines oil quality
Cold-pressed oil leaves the press as crude oil: rich in taste but cloudy and susceptible to oxidation due to fine water components and suspended particles. Professional filtration makes the difference between a storable premium product and a natural product that spoils quickly.
The filtration process step by step

Decantation / pre-filtration
After pressing, coarse trub material settles out due to gravity (12-24 hours). A pre-coarse filter (500–1000 µm) protects the fine filter system from cnr load.

Back filtration (plate filter)
The crude oil is pressed through filter plates (0.5–5 µm retention) at 1–4 bar. Water microparticles and suspended matter are retained - the oil becomes bare.

Polishing filtration (optional)
A second pass of filter with finer material (0.1-0.5 µm) produces crystal clear Premium oil for direct sales and highest margins.

Quality control & bottling
Sensory test (color, clarity, smell) and, if necessary, peroxide number measurement the filling secures the batch. Clear oil = significantly longer best before date.
Filter aids & filter media
The choice of filter medium determines filtrate quality, throughput and costs. Only approved aids in accordance with EU Organic Regulation 2018/848 are permitted for organic products.
Cellulose filter plates
Standard for cooking oils. Inexpensive, food-safe and easily recyclable. Typical running time per plate set: 500–2,000 liters depending on crude oil quality.
Diatomaceous earth / perlite
Filter aid for chamber filter press operation. Increased filter area and service life enable higher throughputs and more uniform filtration with changing crude oil quality.
Synthetic fiber / PVDF membranes
For cosmetics and pharmaceuticals: washable multiple times, autoclavable, absolute separation limits. Higher investment costs are amortized by the long service life (3–7 years).

Rapps sunflower linseed
Rapeseed oil tends to be cloudy with mucilage, while linseed oil is very sensitive to oxidation - both benefit enormously from rapid filtration after pressing. Jolly Mini or OW-FILPU sufficient for farm volumes of up to 5 tons/year.

Pumpkin Seed Hemp Black Cumin
High-priced seeds require a flawless appearance: crystal-clear pumpkin seed oil is achieved on request – 12/100ml in direct sales. Two-stage filtration (pre-filter + polishing) makes the difference. Invest: approx. On request - 8,000 for complete filter path.
Olive oil
Extra virgin olive oil
Traditionally unfiltered (con morchia) modern often polished for longer durability. Filtration reduces water content <0.1% and prevents fermentation processes in the warehouse. Recommendation: OW-FILPU with cellulose board <2 µm.
Natural cosmetics
Argan Jojoba Evening Primrose
Cosmetic raw materials require filtrate qualities according to ISO 22716 (GMP). Membrane filtration to 0.2–0.45 µm ensures microbiological purity without chemical treatment. Full traceability of the filtration chain mandatory.

Avocado grape seed hemp
Fruit oils and oils with a high chlorophyll content are intensely colored and sensitive. Filtration here primarily to remove particles - no discoloration that destroys the natural profile. Specially tailored filter plates for pulp residues.

Freshly pressed oil is cloudy and contains suspended matter. Here is the knowledge about filter processes, boxes, pumps and care - for clear, hygienic cooking oil in accordance with EU food law.
How does chamber filtration work?
Oil is forced under pressure through a series of filter chambers with filter boxes. Suspended matter sticks to the cardboard and clear oil flows through. Cartons are changed when pressure increases.
Which filter cartons?
Standardized according to GSM (g/m²). 350 GSM: coarser, longer service life, cold oil. 470 GSM: finer, clearer oil, shorter service life. For premium oils often multi-stage.
OW Jolly 10 vs OW 40?
OW Jolly 10 (10-50 L batch): compact, ideal for farm/manufactory. OW 40 (100-200 L batch): more industrial, longer service life between box changes. Both with an integrated pump.
Why filter pump?
OW filter pump conveys oil from the storage tank to the filter and, if necessary, to bottling. Self-priming, food-approved. Premium variant has higher pressure performance.
Pre- and post-filter?
If there is a lot of trub: pre-filter with coarse cardboard (e.g. 350 GSM), then fine filter (470 GSM). For clear oils, 1 stage is sufficient.
Hygiene
Clean filter daily after use, CIP capable. Always use boxes once and then dispose of them - do not reuse them due to the risk of germs.
